Langtang Valley to Helambu with Ganja-la pass trekking is donearound Nepal’s 2nd largest Langtang National Park, established in early 1976, the first National Park around Himalaya with an area of 1,710 sq. km. This fabulous adventure leads through high hills of Tamang, Bhotias and Hyalmo traditional villages enrich with Buddhist religion, culture, and tradition of Tibetan origin.

On this trek where you will be completely engrossed with amazing vista from Annapurna I(8,091m / 26,545ft), Annapurna South(7,219m-23,693ft), 08th highest Mt. Manaslu at 8,163 m, Ganesh Himal(7,405 m), Langtang Lirung (7,234 m)  Ghengu Liru(Langtang II, 6571m / 21,560ft), Kimshun (6,745m/22,137ft) and Shalbachum(6,918m / 22,699ft) to the south and the Chimsedang Lekh which forms a ridge of peaks which includes Naya-Kanga (5,846m) and Gangchempo terminating with Dorje Lakpa (6,980m/22,929ft). To the east, theres the upper meadows of the Langtang end in a massive mountain wall, forming the frontier with Tibet.

Starting this wonderful adventure with a drive to Syabrubesi village and then higher up to beautiful Langtang valley at Kyanjin Gompa, you’ll walk past Ghoretabela and Langtang traditional farm village. In Kyanjin you can enjoy the views of surrounding mountains and then heading towards Helambu area via high scenic Ganja-la pass at 5, 122 meters, the highest point of the adventure, and then into complete wilderness to reach a cultural village of Helambu area with traditional Hyalmo tribe akin to Sherpa and Tamang culture and religion.

Day 04:Trek to Lama Hotel 2,430m - 06 hours.

Day 05:Trek to Langtang village 3,430m - 06 hours.

Day 06:Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3,850m - 04 hours.

Day 07:At Kyanjin Gompa rest and hike.

Day 08:Trek to Ganja La Phedi 4,300m / 14,104 ft -05 hrs.

Day 09:Cross Ganja La 5,122 m descend to Keldang 4,250 m - 06 hrs.

Day 10:Trek to Dukpu 4,080 m - 05 hrs.

Day 11:Trek to Tarke-Gyang 2,590 m - 05 hrs.

Day 12:Rest day at Tarke- Gyang

Day 13:Trek to Sermathang 2,610 m - 04 hours.

Day 14:Trek to Melamchi Bazaar and drive to Kathmandu - 04 hrs drive

Detail Itinerary

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu via respective airlines. On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, Nepal Adventure Team staff and guide will receive you with a warm welcome and then transfer to the respective hotels in the hub of Kathmandu around the interesting area of Thamel. After refreshment our guide / leader will brief you regarding hotels, Nepali cultures, tours and Langtang Valley Trekking with a welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurant assisted by a folk cultural program.

Day 02Preparation day in KathmanduWe separate this day for the preparation of the entire journey. You will be informed of all the trekking plans and the packing lists, what you can expect and how it can be more interesting. This day can be important to most of the people before beginning the journey. Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu is optional when if intended, you can visit a number of world heritage listed places .

Day 03Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460 m - 07 hours. Our first day journey heads north passing many towns and farm villages of Kakani, Trisuli and Ramche. The air gets cooler reaching higher altitude at Langtang National Park in Dhunche town,1965 m high, a major town of Langtang and Rasuwa district. After a brief stop, journey continues further downhill on the winding road for another hour to reach our first overnight stop at Syabrubesi village.

Day 04Trek to Lama Hotel 2,430m - 06 hours. The first day walk starts with a climb for few hours, and then walk gets gentle on the gradual path through terraced farms and scattered villages. Trek continues to Bamboo for the stop. After a nice stop walk leads on the uphill trail into cool forest of rhododendron, oaks and pines tree lines and gorge following the Trisuli River fed from the glacier of Langtang peaks. Lama hotel for the night stay.

Day 05Trek to Langtang village 3,430m - 06 hours. Around mid day, the continuous walk take you to a nice place, Ghoretabla (horse stable). After lunch break, afternoon trek continues to our overnight stop at Langtang village after walking for few hours. Langtang village is a nice, moderate sized village of Tamang and Bhotia’s tribe people who are the natives of Langtang region for hundreds of years.

Day 06Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3,850m - 04 hours. The morning walk follows a short steep uphill where tree lines declines for short bushes. Walk slowly enters the wide glacial valley with incredible views of surrounding high snowcapped peaks,Dorji Lakpa, Langtang Lirung, Tsego ri, Langshisha and Naya Kanga. After a scenic walk, reaching at Kyanjin Gompa for overnight stop and next day rest, a wonderful spot with wide green pastures or grazing land for Yaks and other cattles.

Day 07At Kyanjin Gompa rest and hike. A necessary rest day at Kyanjin for acclimatization(optional hike to a hilltop of Tsergo Ri at 5,033m). The climb to Tsergo Ri is quite steep and requires good physical fitness, but offers awesome views of high mountains. Afternoon, rest and enjoy the stunning peaks and explore around the area.

Day 08Trek to Ganja La Phedi 4,300m / 14,104 ft -05 hrs. After a wonderful time with rest days at Kyanjin, the real adventure starts following the Langtang River and then uphill walk through rhododendron forests. The climb leads to a steep walk on the icy path to reach the flat ground of Ganja La phedi (bottom) for the first overnight camping of this trip.

Day 09Cross Ganja La 5,122 m descend to Keldang 4,250 m - 06 hrs. Starting early before dawn cross Ganja La pass. Sometimes it could be quite challenging as this pass is covered by snow most of the season. After a hard climb with stunning views of surrounding high mountains, descend on the icy trail to small ponds and to Keldang Kharka for overnight camping.

Day 10Trek to Dukpu 4,080 m - 05 hrs. After a hard trek of previous day, start the morning with a pleasant walk following a ridge line, with few ups and downs reaching a small Sheppard’s settlement at Dukpu, a summer grazing pasture of Helambu area for overnight camp.

Day 11Trek to Tarke-Gyang 2,590 m - 05 hrs. Morning starts with a slow downhill at first then climbing a small pass at 4,100 m, a scenic spot for fabulous mountain views of Ganesh, Langtang and Jugal Himal range. After a nice break, descend through thick forest of pine and rhododendron trees to Tarke-Gyang village for overnight stop with time for excursion in the oldest Buddhist monasteries of this area.

Day 12Rest day at Tarke- Gyang Nepal Adventure Team reserves a spare day in this lovely cultural village of Tarke-Gyang as this day allows to adjust the itinerary days in case of delay crossing Ganja-la pass due to unfavorable and bad weather conditions. If all goes well, a rewarding rest day for exploring around.

Day 13Trek to Sermathang 2,610 m - 04 hours. Enjoying a night with the friendly locals, walk leads through a flat area with unspoiled forests enjoying the view of beautiful Helambu villages. Following the trail, you'll see superb views of rolling green hills reaching at Shermathang village for the overnight stop, a nice village of Hyolmos ethnic tribes.

Day 14Trek to Melamchi Bazaar and drive to Kathmandu - 04 hrs drive The final day of this awesome adventure. Walk downhill on the flat land to a Buddhist Stupa “Padmasamba” statue and through alpine forest to the village of Kakani. Continue to Melamchi Khola, and to Melamchi Bazaar for driving journey back to Kathmandu. Farewell dinner.

Day 15International departure for homeward bound. Your last day in amazing Nepal. As per international flight time, our staff will transfer you to international airport for your flight back home or to next port of call, after a great Langtang Valley to Helambu with Ganja-la pass trekking with Nepal Adventure Team and its staffs.

Passport & Visa

All foreign nationals, except Indian citizens, need visas to enter Nepal. Getting a visa must be the easiest one though. You just have to go to the Nepalese Embassy/consulate in your country or it can also be obtained upon your arrival in Kathmandu International Airport. To get a visa, you need to bring 2 pp size photos, visa fees and valid passport.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a must when you travel abroad. Therefore before you come to Nepal, please make sure you have your insurance documents with you since our insurance companies cannot insure foreign nationals. Because of the reason that they cover all the expenses if you face some unfortunate happenings and you have to be rescued or medically assisted during the trip or if your belongings are lost or stolen.


Solo Travellers

We have arranged for the single traveller to pay for the single trip only. He has to share the accommodation with other person of same sex though while he can also join the other groups.

 

Foods and Accommodations

All meals are provided during trek while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. Generally, traditional Nepalese(daal, bhat, curry and pickle), Tibetan, Continental, Indian and other cuisines are available in the local lodges/teahouses. There will also be welcome and farewell dinner for guests in Kathmandu.

In Kathmandu, youll be staying in the best quality standard hotel, on twin-sharing basis. On trekking, accommodations are simple yet comfortable on mountain lodges. Toilets and bathrooms need to be shared in some teahouses. All the camping tents and stuffs will be provided for the 3 night stay in the Langtang region.

Note: Single room is always available but only on special request and spending extra bucks.

 

Health and Fitness required

No previous experience is required since its a moderate trek. But you being a healthy person, physically and mentally is very important. It is better if we prepare ourselves few days/weeks prior to the start of the trek by jogging and running regularly since well be walking a lot of ups and downs in the hills, ridges, villages and mountains. Participants with the pre-existing medical conditions should inform us beforehand.


First Aid Kit/High Altitude Sickness

Nepal Adventure Team strongly suggests that you have your own personal first aid or medical kit. This trip takes you to some high altitudes but the slow walks and regular stops between the walks will help you acclimatize on high altitude saving you from the high altitude sickness called AMS(acute mountain sickness). Gaining altitude without proper consideration of AMS is fatal.

Your Guide and Porter

Since the mountain trekking take you to the remote places over high altitudes, the leader should have a significant knowledge in the field so that he can wonderfully and safely lead you there clearing any obstacles on the way. We,Nepal Adventure Team can proudly say that our guides are highly qualified for the role. They are fully  trained, experienced and licensed. They have undergone through a whole lot of trainings to make themselves useful in various situations and to make your journey a smooth and pleasant one.

Our porters are always fully equipped with the gears they need and as per the company policy, they are always insured and completely looked after. They are our backbone. We allow maximum weight of 25kg to be carried by one porter. We make sure that they are well paid and well treated.


Best Time to Travel

The best time for trekking to the Langtang region is Spring(March to May) and Autumn(September to November) because the weather is warm and  moderate while the view and visibility is the best. The winter is also somehow fine but the monsoon is the less frequented time because of the occasional heavy rain and when the roads might be troublesome.

Equipments and Packing Lists

After booking with Nepal Adventure Team, please pack necessary items as listed:
1. Travel documents: passport, visa(if you have), travel insurance, air tickets, voucher, passport photo (x 2)
2. Bank card or credit cards, travellers cheque, etc
3. Comfortable boots and runners/sports shoes.
4. 6-8 pairs of socks woolen / cotton.
5. Fleece jacket, Down / Duvet Jacket and Rain / windproof jacket.
6. Gloves- 2 pairs.
7. T-shirts 4-6 pcs, shirts(woolen/cotton).
8. A cap for day and a woolen hat or Balaclava for evening / morning wear.
9. Trousers.
10. Short and tracksuits.
11. Sleeping bag (4 seasons)  with inner liner.

Precautionary Note

Trekking has been long established in Nepal,so the itineraries are modified and moderated in such a way that you can take it easy and slow. DO NOT RUSH AND ENJOY. There is plenty of time and guide will keep track of you all the time. It might be a bit harder or a bit more colder but you will get used to it.

Additional Money

Every traveller is different and they spend their own way. Some spend on food and drinks while other on souvenirs. Either way, consider your own spending habits and also tipping, emergency fund($200), etc before you pack up and leave.

 

Trip Specific Safety

Your guide is always there for your safety concerns and looking after your valuables. But you have to be equally careful. Carry some sort of wallet or belt for your important documents and money. The hotels have the safety deposit box where the lock is recommended before passing the luggage.

Possession or using of any illegal drugs is totally intolerable. Its because of the law that respects the local people and their culture. The group will be expelled in such case.

Trip Note

The groups safety is very important for us. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Even though every effort is made to go as planned, a little change might occur in the itinerary because of weather conditions, health condition of a person, unexpected natural disasters, etc. The leader will try to ensure the trip runs as planned, but please be prepared to be flexible just in case.
