AD refers to assez difficile (fairly difficult) with features as Fairy hard snow and ice at an angle of 45-65 degrees, rock climbing up to UIAA grade III, but not sustained, belayed climbing in addition to a large amount of exposed but easier terrain. However, somewhere you can see it be graded as PD+ referring to Peu difficile (slightly difficult) which means routes longer at high elevation with snow and ice slopes up to 45 degrees, glaciers complex, belaying and objective hazards where PD + might be AD-.

Chulu West Peak Climbing is one of the appealing peaks allowed by the Nepal Government and permitted by the Nepal Mountaineering Association to climb and explore. Nepal Peak Climbing offers the opportunity to climb various peaks of regions: Everest Region, Langtang Region, Annapurna Region, Manaslu Region, Kanchenjunga Region.

Chulu West peak is part of the Manang Himal. The eastern limit of Chulu East runs south from Chako Peak (6687 m/ 21,939 ft) in a north-to-south direction along the Hunlung Khola, Nar Khola, and Phu Khola. To the south Chulu is bounded by the Marsyangdi Khola and the Mesokanto La. The closeness of Chulu Peaks (Chulu Central, Chulu East, Chulu West) of the same range creates difficulty in the identification of Chulu West Peak for climbers.   • Day 02 Sightseeing of Kathmandu Valley and Preparation day

    This day is about visiting Kathmandu Valley and preparing/ packing for the Chulu West Peak Climbing. Early morning after breakfast, you will be lead towards the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kathmandu: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bouddhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Swoyambhunath Temple.

    And if you have missed any of the necessary elements for Chulu West Peak Climbing, you can buy or hire. We will be helping you to prepare and make final packing.

  • Day 03 Drive to Jagat (1260m/4133 ft) from Kathmandu via Besisahar – 9 Hours

    On this day, you will drive away from Kathmandu valley towards Jagat. You will ride through Prithivi Highway, highway to Pokhara, and take a right turn from Dumre town (the straight road leads to Pokhara). Within 6 hours, we will land at Besisahar, a small town and gateway to Manang. You will be riding on a public bus or on request private jeep can be arranged by us. You get the hint of the Himalayas from Besisahar.

    Then, you will ride on a local jeep from Besisahar to Jagat. Around 3 hours of a bumpy road ride, you will reach Jagat for the night stay. The road goes through cliffs and hardly smooth. You will start to see Marshyangdi river which will be your companion to trek.

  • Day 04 Trek to Dharapani (1946m/6383 ft) from Jagat - 5 Hours
    The trek begins from this day as you head towards Dharapani from Jagat. After a warm and heavy breakfast, you will descend to the Marshyangdi river and continue to walk through thick pine and oak forest. You will observe the villages as Sattale, Tal, and Karte. Tal village is widely appreciated due to its magical location. You will also enjoy the Annapurna Range, hills, and valleys on the way to Dharapani. You will stay at a tea house lodge in Dharapani village.

  • Day 05 Trek to Chame (2670m/8758 ft) from Dharapani – 5- 6 Hours

    You will walk through a mule track filled with fir, pine, and oak trees. You will be climbing up to Bagarchhap in order to reach Chame. The trail will showcase the panoramic views of Annapurna II, III, and Lanmjung Himal. You will also come across villages and local culture and tradition influenced by Tibetan style. Chame is the main administrative center and headquarters of the Manang district. As you reach Bagarchaap (typical Tibetan-style village amidst forest), you will trek along the left bank of the river towards Koto which is also a gateway to the amazing Nar Phu Valley Trek. You can relax in Chame village with cultural and natural charm and enjoy your night stay.

  • Day 06 Trek to Pisang (3200m/10,497 ft) – 5- 6 Hours

    Today’s night stop is Pisang. Pisang is a small village on the bank of Marsyangdi River. Firstly, we will move towards Bharatang along the river bank and climb up to the Dhikur Pokhari area to reach Pisang. You will walk across dense rhododendron and pine forest filled with a chilly breeze. Since you are climbing towards higher altitude you will also notice the change in weather and surrounding.

    Besides, the natural elements you will also encounter prayer flags and mani walls. As you reach Pisang, Annapurna II 7937m/ 26,040 ft and Pisang Peak 6091m/ 19,983 ft will be welcoming you. There is Upper Pisang and Lower Pisang. For the proper acclimatization, it is necessary to climb slowly and gradually, so you will be staying at Lower Pisang. You can also visit the large apple farm located at Pisang.

  • Day 07 Trek to Manang (3,540m/11,612 ft) – 6 Hours

    Today you will enter the Manang Valley en route Upper Pisang, Geru/Ghyaru, and Ngawal village with spectacular Himalayan views. After breakfast, you will ascend a hill and the top will provide the view of marvelous Manang Valley and a closer view of Humde town. During the winter season, people also do ice climbing and skiing in the Humde area. From the top, Gangapurna, Annapurna II 7937m/ 26,040 ft, Annapurna III 7555m/ 24,787 ft, Tilicho, Chulu east will be in your sight whereas Pisang on back. Continuing the trail you can also visit the old Barge Monastery of Barge village. You will also see the buckwheat and potato fields. The further climb will land you at Manang.

  • Day 08 Acclimatization day at Manang (3540m/11,612 ft) – 7 Hours

    Manang is a dry and arid region which is also called Nyesyang and is a rain shadow area of the Himalaya. You will spend one more night at Manang to cope with the higher altitude and environment. A short hike to Ice Lake will be carried which is necessary for acclimatization. Undoubtedly, Himalayas will be accompanying your acclimatization process.

  • Day 09 Trek to Yak Kharka (4020m/13,189 ft) – 4-5 Hours

    Today, you will start the trek along the northern direction of Manang village through the Ghunsang community. The winding path will lead you to Yak Kharka. By crossing the Gyachung Khola (rivulets), you will see the small settlement named Yak Kharka. The beautiful view of Annapurna, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak enhance the beauty of Yak Kharka, and your night stay will be amazing.

  • Day 10 Trek to Chulu Base Camp (4900m/16,076 ft) – 4-5 hours (Tent Camp)

    On this day, you will target to reach Chulu Base Camp and spend the night at a tent rather tea house lodge. You will be crossing a number of suspension bridges during this Chulu West Peak Climbing and one more bridge will lead to Ledar. Alpine vegetation can be seen. As you will be heading for Chulu Base Camp, the trail is steep and harder. Our team will arrange your stay, dinner, and breakfast at a cozy spot with a wonderful view. Though you will be camping, our team will leave no stone unturned to make you comfortable and relax.

  • Day 11 Chulu Base Camp Acclimatization day and basic training

    The main thing of trekking in higher altitudes is to acclimatize and cope with higher elevation and thin air. We have prepared our itinerary such that any traveler won’t face health issues related to altitude sickness. So, this day is also separated for acclimatization and warm-up session for climbing. You will rest as well as learn. Short hikes and the use of climbing gear will be done.

  • Day 12 Trek from Chulu Base Camp to High Camp (5530m/18,143 ft) – 4-5 Hours

    The trekking level will begin to challenge you and demand more strength and stamina. With the proper guidelines, you will be climbing along the ridgeline with some technical skills to ascend High Camp. Just like in Chulu West Base camp, our team will set up a tent and prepare food for you. It is better to sleep early such that you could start your trek sooner on the next day.

  • Day 13 Trek from Chulu West High Camp (5530m/18,143 ft) to Camp I – Tent camping

    Since acclimatization is essential as well as the weather, so we will be climbing slowly with a lesser trekking area. On this day, we will be tenting at Camp I of Chulu West Peak. The route to Camp I is not much technically challenging but footsteps should be taken carefully. The trail will be slippery which may cause a casualty. On the other hand, the collective scene of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Gangapurna, and Lamjung Himal will encourage you to step more towards your destination. You will need to rest for the hectic schedule of the next day to accomplish Chulu West Peak.

  • Day 14 Summit Chulu Peak and return to Chulu West Base Camp (4900m/16,076ft)

    This day will be the most important day of your journey as you will summit Chulu West Peak. You will have breakfast and begin your climbing at 1:00 AM – 2:00 AM as the wind is stronger in mountains at midday. So, you need to accomplish Chulu West Peak as early as possible and return to Chulu West Base Camp. You will walk along slippery icy ridges using gears in the guidance of our guide. As you reach the top of Chulu West, you will enter into the jungle of mountains which shines and brightens your heart. After spending a magical moment on the top, you will begin to descend to reach Chulu West Base Camp for the night stay. Our team will set the bed, food, and camp for your comfort after such a long and happening day.

  • Day 15 Trek to Thorong La Phedi (4525m/14,846ft) -5-6 Hours

    After summiting Chulu West Peak, you will return to Kathmandu through different trekking trail which will enable you to observe and explore more areas of the Annapurna Region. The trail begins along the Khone Khola (rivulets) which runs all the way up to Thorang La Phedi. You will follow the descending trail along the Kone River to the wooden suspension bridge. Across the bridge, there lays the narrow rough hills trail leading to Thorang La Phedi. You will stay at the tea house lodge after three days of camping.

  • Day 16 Trek to Muktinath (3800m/12,467ft) via Thorong la Pass (5416m/17,769 ft) – 6-7 Hours

    You will descend along the trail following Thorang Khola (rivulets) and traverse along the bank to pass Thorang La at 5416m elevation. This pass is also known as Worl’s largest pass with the breathtaking sceneries of Annapurna and Chulu massifs. Then, move forward to Muktinath. Muktinath area has Muktinath Temple, a holy place for both Hindus and Buddhists where Muktinath means the place for Nirvana or Liberation. You can explore Muktinath Temple in the evening or early morning on the next day.

  • Day 17 Trek to Jomsom (2715m/8908 ft)– 4-5 Hours

    After the sound and warm stay at Muktinath, the rest of the journey is of a moderate walk. You will be dropping to Kaligandaki river valley and stay at Jomsom village. Jomsom is one of the most loved tourist areas of Nepal. It is the headquarter of Mustang district and a small airstrip above the Kaligandaki River. You can enjoy apple farm and local apple products like cider, brandy, and juice.

  • Day 18 Fly to Pokhara (860m) from Jomsom- 20 minutes

    You will be flying to Pokhara from Jomsom airport. The flight will be in the morning such that you can rest as well as explore Pokhara valley. You will have a scenic flight of diverse landscapes from dry land, mountains, rivers, hills to Pokhara Valley. Pokhara is one of the largest cities in Nepal and the most loved tourism area. Pokhara is just an example of the exotic blend of nature and modernization. You can sip a hot coffee or chilled beer on the bank of the lake with the view of a wide stretch mountain range. After a long and tiring trek, Pokhara will be a perfect hub for you to relax and revive.

  • Day 19 Drive to Kathmandu – 6-7 Hours

You will be traveling by tourist bus. And you will be dropped at the hotel in Kathmandu. As a celebration and greetings for success in the further journey, we, Nepal Adventure Team, will organize a farewell dinner for you.

Transportation in Chulu West Peak Climbing

Chulu West Peak Climbing days are mostly covered with trekking and climbing through ridges and hills. You need to focus on your physical activeness and how much you can endure the walking distance and pace.

Nevertheless, up to some destination, you will have a scenic drive as well as a flight. From Kathmandu to Besisahar, you will be gone by a local bus. On request, separate private jeep or vehicles as per your group requirement can be arranged which may impact the cost. Similarly, from Besisahar, the road is bumpy and not paved so only jeeps make the trip. You will have a jeep ride up to Jagat. Either you have to share the jeep with other travelers or a private one can be arranged for you.

While returning from Chulu West Peak Climbing, you will fly from Jomsom to Pokhara. There is the option of trekking as well as a road trip on local bus/ local jeep/ reserved jeep. The road trip will take around 7-8 hours from Jomsom to Pokhara whereas trekking may add 3-4 days to Pokhara.

From Pokhara to Kathmandu, road trip and flight is available. A different option from local bus, tourist bus, super deluxe bus, van to the car is on service for a road trip. Otherwise, different flights are available for the entire day up to 16:00 hours. You can choose any option which will also impact the cost mentioned in the package.

The Chulu West Peak Climbing initially covers the cost of Local bus to Besisahar, local jeep to Jagat, flight to Pokhara from Jomsom, and tourist deluxe bus to Kathmandu from Pokhara.
