Tarke Gyang- the Temple of 100 Horses

Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek is not just attractive for its unspoiled natural beauty but also the years-old historical traditions, culture, and stories respected, adored, and conserved by the local people. One of the villages of the Langtang Ganja La passes trail, which carries the beliefs and values since the ancient period in Tarke-Gyang. Tarke-Gyang means the temple of 100 horses in the local language. As per the beliefs of locals, the great Lama (Buddhist monk) brought 100 horses from Kathmandu (the kingdom of Kathmandu in ancient days) as a reward from the King for his good deeds. Then, the Lama established the temple in 1727, which was further rebuilt in 1969. The locals highly value the temple and follow the beliefs with great respect towards the Lama and the temple. Following this belief, the village itself is named Tarke Gyang. Tarke Gyang has facilitated and served many Buddhist masters to meditate and practice. Nearby Tarke Gyang, there are many caves where the Lamas have stayed and meditated for years.
