Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek with Nepal Adventure Team is one of the most fascinating and enjoyable trekking on the least trekked area of Solukhumbu to higher Khumbu region of Everest.
Starting from the classic trail of early mountaineers expedition’s route to Everest base camp leading through impressive and interesting famed traditional Sherpa villages, interwoven with Tibetan Buddhism religion and culture and through villages of Bhandar, Sete, Junbesi, Nunthala and Kharikhola, the main settlement of lower Everest known as Solu district area of Mid East Nepal.

Journey continues with much uphill and downhill through the scenic Lamjura pass 3,530 m to enter the lovely village of Junbesi, as the walk progress with the glimpse of Mt. Everest on route to higher Khumbu area and slowly heading towards famous Namche Bazaar.

At Namche we take a day rest before going higher to Everest Base Camp, which is quite a challenge from Jiri onward. Journey continues leading to another famous spot at Thyangboche monastery with stunning views of Amadablam, and Everest with other snow capped mountains.

As the walk progress higher towards our goal at Everest base camp with view of Khumbu Ice Fall and glaciers beneath the world highest peak, another highlight is to climb at Kalapathar, the highest spot of the adventure at 5,545 m with alluring views of mountains and Everest at close distance. After a great moment we head back to Namche and then to Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu .

Detail Itinerary

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu via respective airlines. On arrival at Kathmandu international airport terminal Nepal Adventure Team staff and guide will receive you with a warm welcome and then transfer to respective hotels in the hub of Kathmandu around the interesting area of Thamel. After refreshment our guide / leader will brief with information regarding hotels, Nepali culture, tours and Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek with welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurant with folk cultural program.

Day 02Preparation day in Kathmandu We separate this day for the preparation of the entire journey. You will be informed of all the trekking plans and the packing lists, what you can expect and how it can be more interesting. This day can be important to most of the people before beginning the journey. Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu is optional when if intended, you can visit a number of world heritage listed places .

Day 03Morning drive to Jiri and to Bhandar(Chyangma)2,200m - 08 hrs Starting this fabulous adventure early morning with an interesting and scenic drive to Jiri unto Bhandar via Shivalaya towns and the lovely places Dhulikhel and Charikot. On reaching Jiri known as Switzerland of Nepal due its mild alpine climate and amazing sceneries, drive continues heading east on the winding dirt road to Shivalaya village and then to Bhandar village for overnight stop, the village predominantly settled by Sherpas.

Day 04Trek to Sete 2,575 m - 06 hrs. Morning begins with a first day walk of this adventure after a long drive, trek leads on a winding path through farm terraces, rural villages to reach at Kenja village. Kenja is a nice moderate size village, situated in a mild warm climate beneath high hills of Lamjura and Pikey danda with views of Numbur peaks. FromKenja, a steep climb to Sete village for overnight stop

Day 05Trek to Junbesi 2,700 m via Lamjura-la 3,530 m -06 hrs. Morning walk heading higher towards Lamjura-la pass with a steady climb through lovely rhododendron, pines and oak treesforest, as the trail leads through scattered small farm reaching at Lamjura pass near a big stupa and few lodges. After a short break a long descend leading into enchanting forested area all the way to Toctoc, and then continue walk on a wide gradual winding trail to reach Junbesi where a high school was built by Sir Edmund Hillary Trust.

Day 06Trek to Nunthala (Manidingma) 2,220 m - 06 hrs.The morning walk continues leading on a gradual winding path with first glimpse of Mt. Everest and other adjoining peaks of Khumbu area, walk leads downhill to a river and crossing the bridge a short uphill climb towards Ringmo village for lunch break.Depending upon the time go furher further as time permits. After Ringmo, a gradual climb into forested area of pines and rhododendron trees to reach at Trakshindu hilltop and a pass, the top marked with Mani Stupa known as chortens offering great views of Numbur, Kusum Kangguru, Thamserku and Kangtega peaks towards North. From here a long descend will take you to Nunthala village.

Day 07Trek to Kharikhola 2, 050 m- 06 hrs From here onwards the temperature gets much cooler getting close to Khumbu and Everest region, morning walk begins with downhill to a bridge over raging glacial Dudh Kosi River. On crossing the river, walk leads on a winding uphill path to Jubing village, and an uphill climb to Kharikhola for overnight stop. This is a large village of Sherpa and Magar tribe,

Day 08Trek to Surkhe 2,300 m - 06 hrs. After Kharikhola, head towards a high ridge of Bupsa hill. Walk leads to cross a river at the end of the Kharikhola village, then a steep climb for an hour to Bupsa, a small place with number of lodges and shops, located on a ridge offering grand views of rolling hills and valleys. From Bupsa a slow winding climb to reach at Puiyan village for lunch in the middle of a thick forest. After lunch walk is moderate on a nice pleasant path with view of Lukla town and the airstrip, the last leg of the walk leads to a descend to Surkhe village for overnight stop.

Day 09Trek to Phakding 2,650m - 06 hrs. From Surkhe onward enter at Khumbu area, one of high and remote district of Mid East Nepal. Morning walk take you to Choplung village, where the path from Lukla meets. Here onward is the main popular route to Everest base camp after being on a quiet and isolated Solu area. After Choplung encountering more trekkers, porters and Yaks carrying loads of the trekkers, walk leads through many small villages and farm lands with great scenery and then reaching at Phakding for overnight stop.

Day 10Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 05 hrs. Start with a pleasant trek through beautiful alpine woodland of pines and rhododendron trees with views of snow capped peaks, entering Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo, the highest park and a world heritage site. As the walk progress after the last high bridge and uphill, haul all the way to Namche Bazaar, a wonderful town-village where the colorful houses serving as hotels and lodge, set in a U shape. Namche Bazaar, the last place with modern facilities of ATM, Banks, post office, Cyber Café, Trekking / Climbing shops, bakeries and restaurants with great views of Kwangde peaks towards south.

Day 11Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion. Namche Bazaar an ideal spot for rest day and acclimatization at 3,440 meters high before heading to higher elevation. Morning after breakfast take short walk to the top of Namche with a museum full of information regarding Khumbu / Everest area of Sherpa religions, culture, history, mountaineering to flora and flora. This wonderful spot offers stunning views of Amadablam, Thamserku, Kangtenga, Kwangde, Khumbi-la with Mt. Everest and Lhotse towards North. After an impressive morning head back to lodge for lunch and relax and catch up with the people around the bazaar.

Day 12Trek to Thyangboche 3,867 m - 05hrs. Morning trek leads up for a short while and following a nice winding trail into rhododendron and pine trees with the fabulous views of Amadablam, one of the most beautiful peak in all Himalayas. Descend to Imjatse River reaching at PhungeTenga, a small place with few tea shops, a favorite lunch stop place. After a nice break, our second half of the journey goes through a pristine forest to Thyangboche Monastery. A scenic spot with amazing views of Amadablam, Kangtenga, Thamserku, Kwangde and Mt. Everest. At Thyangboche monastery, mountaineers get blessed from the high lama (priest) for better success and safe expedition.

Day 13Trek to Dingboche 4,260 m - 05 hrs. With morning panorama, after breakfast begin with a downhill walk through lovely rhododendron and pines forest, a nice pleasant trek leading to a bridge over ImjaKhola. From here a moderate climb to reach at Pangboche village with houses built of stones, this is the last permanent village before Everest Base Camp. From here on leaving the tree lines behind walk leads slowly to an exposed area with super views of Mt. Amadablam at close distance. Dingboche for overnight stop.

Day 14Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m - 05 hrs. After wonderful overnight in Dingboche, morning follows with a short uphill climb and then a nice pleasant walk toThugla located on a midway between Pheriche valley, Dingboche, Cholatse pass and Everest Base Camp & Kalapathar routes. Thugala is a nice place for lunch break with stunning views of the mountains. After lunch a slow and short steep climb up to the terminal debris of Khumbu Glacier with many memorials of unfortunate mountaineers and climbers. Short walk to Lobuche for overnight stop.

Day 15Trek to Gorakshep 5,170 m and Everest Base Camp 5,334 m and return to Gorakshep - 06 hrs. Start the morning with a gentle walk to gain the high altitude with views of Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse and Mt. Everest. After 2 hours of strenuous walk, arrive at Gorakshep walking on moraine and icy trails. With a break here, journey continues to Everest Base Camp walking over moraine overlooking Khumbu Icefall, slowly the walk leads to our main highlight and destination of this adventure at Everest Base Camp. Enjoying incredible moment for an hour at base camp, return back to Gorakshep for overnight stop.

Day 16Hike to Kalapathar5,545 m trek to Pheriche 4,240m - 05 hrs. Starting early to reach our next highlight and the highest point of the adventure with a steep climb for 2 hours hike to Kalapatthar hill top (on a black rocky ridge of a hill) at 5,545 meters high, offering awesome panorama of surrounding high giant peaks with Mt. Everest at stone throw distance towards East. After an incredible moment head downhill to Gorakshep and continue trek to Pheriche valley for the overnight stop.

Day 17Trek to Namche Bazaar via Pangboche 3,900 m and Thyangboche. From Pheriche walk is long and pleasant on the downhill trail to reach Thyangboche after Shomare and Pangboche village with an hour climb up to Thyangboche. You are back into tree lines and rich green vegetation and on the downhill with short steep climb arrive at Namche Bazaar.

Day 18Trek back to Lukla - 07 hrs. Retrace the journey back to Lukla via Monjo near Sagarmatha National Park entrance and exit, a pleasant and relaxing walk enjoying the surrounding scenery as the trail leads back to Lukla on this last day walk of this fabulous adventure. Just few small short uphill climb brings you back to Lukla for last overnight stop around Khumbu and Everest.

Day 19Fly back to Kathmandu and free time. Flight starts early morning, transfer to Tenzing and Hillary air terminal at Lukla airport. A sweeping flight of 35 minutes brings you back in Kathmandu and then transfer to respective hotels with rest of the day free for leisurely activities.

Day 20International departure Your last day in amazing Nepal. As per international flight time our staff will transfer you to international airport for your flight back home or to next port of call, after a great and enjoyable adventure Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek with utmost grand service of Nepal Adventure Team.

Passport & Visa

All foreign nationals, except Indian citizens, need visas to enter Nepal. Getting a visa must be the easiest one though. You just have to go to the Nepalese Embassy/consulate in your country or it can also be obtained upon your arrival in Kathmandu International Airport. To get a visa, you need to bring 2 pp size photos, visa fees and valid passport.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a must when you travel abroad. Therefore before you come to Nepal, please make sure you have your insurance documents with you since our insurance companies cannot insure foreign nationals. Because of the reason that they cover all the expenses if you face some unfortunate happenings and you have to be rescued or medically assisted during the trip or if your belongings are lost or stolen.

Solo Travellers

We have arranged for the single traveller to pay for the single trip only. He has to share the accommodation with other person of same sex though while he can also join the other groups.


Foods and Accommodations

All meals are provided during trek while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. Generally, traditional Nepalese(daal, bhat, curry and pickle), Tibetan, Continental, Indian and other cuisines are available in the local lodges/teahouses. There will also be welcome and farewell dinner for guests in Kathmandu.

In Kathmandu, youll be staying in the best quality hotel, on twin-sharing basis. On trekking,accommodations are simple yet comfortable on mountain lodges. Toilets and bathrooms need to be shared while you have to pay for the hot water bath.
Note: Single room is always available but only on special request and spending extra bucks.


Health and Fitness required

No previous experience is required since its a moderate trek. But you being a healthy person, physically and mentally is very important. It is better if we prepare ourselves few days/weeks prior to the start of the trek by jogging and running regularly since well be walking a lot of ups and downs in the hills, ridges, villages and mountains. Participants with the pre-existing medical conditions should inform us beforehand.

First Aid Kit/High Altitude Sickness

Nepal Adventure Team strongly suggests that you have your own personal first aid or medical kit. This trip takes you to a height above 4000m within few days but the slow walks and regular stops between the walks will help you acclimatize on high altitude saving you from the high altitude sickness called AMS(acute mountain sickness). Gaining altitude without proper consideration of AMS is fatal. Hence, rest in Namche Bazaar is really necessary for the acclimatization.

Your Guide and Porter

Since the mountain trekking take you to the remote places over high altitudes, the leader should have a significant knowledge in the field so that he can wonderfully and safely lead you there clearing any obstacles on the way. We,Nepal Adventure Team can proudly say that our guides are highly qualified for the role. They are fully  trained, experienced and licensed. They have undergone through a whole lot of trainings to make themselves useful in various situations and to make your journey a smooth and pleasant one.

Our porters are always fully equipped with the gears they need and as per the company policy, they are always insured and completely looked after. They are our backbone. We allow maximum weight of 25kg to be carried by one porter. We make sure that they are well paid and well treated.

Best Time to Travel

The best time for trekking to the Jiri-Everest base camp is Spring(March to May) and Autumn(September to November) because the weather is warm and  moderate while the view and visibility is the best. The winter and the summer is the less frequented times because of the cold and the monsoon rain respectively.


Equipments and Packing Lists

After booking with Nepal Adventure Team, please pack necessary items as listed:
1. Travel documents: passport, visa(if you have), travel insurance, air tickets, voucher, passport photo (x 2)
2. Bank card or credit cards, travellers cheque, etc
3. Comfortable boots and runners/sports shoes.
4. 6-8 pairs of socks woolen / cotton.
5. Fleece jacket, Down / Duvet Jacket and Rain / windproof jacket.
6. Gloves- 2 pairs.
7. T-shirts 4-6 pcs, shirts(woolen/cotton).
8. A cap for day and a woolen hat or Balaclava for evening / morning wear.
9. Trousers.
10. Short and tracksuits.
11. Sleeping bag (4 seasons)  with inner liner.

Precautionary Note

Trekking has been long established in Nepal,so the itineraries are modified and moderated in such a way that you can take it easy and slow. DO NOT RUSH AND ENJOY. There is plenty of time and guide will keep track of you all the time. It might be a bit harder or a bit more colder but you will get used to it.


Additional Money

Every traveller is different and they spend their own way. Some spend on food and drinks while other on souvenirs. Either way, consider your own spending habits and also tipping, emergency fund($200), etc before you pack up and leave.


Trip Specific Safety

Your guide is always there for your safety concerns and looking after your valuables. But you have to be equally careful. Carry some sort of wallet or belt for your important documents and money. The hotels have the safety deposit box where the lock is recommended before passing the luggage.

Possession or using ofany illegal drugs is totally intolerable. Its because of the law that respects the local people and their culture. The group will be expelled in such case.

Trip Note

The groups safety is very important for us. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Even though every effort is made to go as planned, a little change might occur in the itinerary because of weather conditions, health condition of a person, unexpected natural disasters, etc. The leader will try to ensure the trip runs as planned, but please be prepared to be flexible just in case.

In event of flight cancellation/delay in/out of Lukla: Due to bad weather conditions(might even happen in best season), it is very likely that the flight to/from Lukla could be delayed or cancelled so make sure you have a day or two extra in your plan. Meanwhile, we could either get back to the hotel after booking another flight or hire a helicopter on extra expense. This is when your travel insurance comes in handy to claim back the expense. Please note that there will be no refund. If the cancellation happens before the trip, you will be given proper lunch and accommodation but if it happens after, you have to cover the additional expenses yourself.
