Upper Mustang Trekking is undoubtedly the compact package of geographical diversity offering high level of adventure. Besides, it holds the unique history that attracts more visitors supplemented by the Tibetan culture and Buddhism importance. Initially, Upper Mustang was isolated till 1992 and later started to welcome the foreigners to its land. So, Upper Mustang allows visitors to explore and indentify the uninfluenced culture of Upper Mustang.

Upper Mustang is distinctively surrounded by mountains as Annapurana, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri which creates invincible temptation. The travelers move along with the Kaligandaki River allowing them to cherish the green forest, fast flowing river leading to the barren land accompanied by mountains. Additionally, Upper Mustang lies on the Tibetan border that influenced local culture so popular village of Upper mustang is still termed as Lo-Manthang which means kingdom in Tibetan language. There are numerous Buddhist monasteries and nunneries, built in stiff cliffs crafting the place with colorful prayer flags. Various caves are also formed. Through the shades of pink, grey, brown colors the barren hills portrait the tale of demon and lama.

For the adventurous and thrill seeker, bike ride to Upper Mustang is one of the fascinating activities. The path is not paved which creates more thrill among the riders. So, Nepal adventure team (NAT) has well organized package for Motorbike Ride to Upper Mustang which starts from Kathmandu allowing visitors to prepare as well as enjoy Kathmandu. Next day leaves for Pokhara to reach Lo-Manthang(Upper Mustang) through Kagbeni.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu 1350mOn arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport Terminal in Kathmandu, Nepal Adventure Team's representative receive you with a warm welcome and transfer to respective hotels in the tourist hub of Kathmandu, Thamel. After refreshment our guide / leader brief information regarding Helambu trekking, environment, culture, food and accommodation. Welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurant with folk cultural program is organized by Nepal Adventure team.

Day 02Test drive in Kathmandu valley and local area sightseeing Just a trial session, we check your driving skills in Kathmandu for the safety reasons. On this day, we do sightseeing of Kathmandu valley and nearby areas. If you are interested , we can go for the World Heritage sites.

Day 03Ride to Pokhara 860m We begin our journey as we head towards Pokhara via Prithivi Highway. Pokhara is most popular city and loved by all the visitors. After Kathmandu, Pokhara is the last city of your journey which has advance facilities and luxury.

Day 04Drive to Kalopani 2,300m Till Pokhara you had smooth paved roads. As you leave Pokhara , the ride on off road begins. You pass by number of amazing place as Kade ( beautiful view of Pokhara and Annapurna range) , Beni (small town) , Tatopani and like. You start to drive by the fast and furious Kali Gandaki River.

Day 05Drive to Kagbeni 2,858m via Marpha and Dumba lake From Kalopani , we head towards Kagbeni. Though we had to ride on off road from Jomsom we can ride on pitched road. We reach Kagbeni by exploring the attractive and popular village Marpha. Marpha has large Apple gardens and authentic Thakali culture and lifestyle. Likewise, we visit Dumba Lake at 2,830 m on the base of Nilgiri(7,125m) mountain.

Day 06Stay at Ghami 3,520m Ghami is our next stop before we reach Lo-Manthang. Ghami ia a small village with traditional locals, lifestyle and settlements, a peaceful place to relax after long bike ride.

Day 07Drive to Lo-Manthang 3,700m via Charang , Ghar Ghumba( oldest Monastery) From Ghami , we move on low pace as we ride through number of essential and beautiful place. We visit such places that in on our way such as Ghar Ghumba- The oldest Monastery, palaces of ancient time. We aim to reach Lo-Manthang in the evening just to rest.

Day 08Drive to China border, sighseeing and stay back at Lo-Manthang This day we drive towards China Border to visit and explore the places that comes by our ways. Near China border you see Chhosar Cave. By observing the sites, we return to Lo-Manthang for stay.

Day 09Explore and rest at Lo-Manthang This day is entirely located to rest, relax and explore the Lo-Manthang city that is surrounded by big walls. Lo-Manthang holds the history, ancient artifacts and unique culture

Day 10Stay at Muktinath 3,800m We leave Lo-Manthang and aim to stay at Muktinath. Muktinath area has a holy temple which has high value to Hindu and Buddhist people.

Day 11Drive to Tatopani (Hot spring) 1,200m Now our ride goes down the hill. We pass Jomsom, Marpha, Kalopani and like villages to stay at Tatopani. The entire journey gives the pleasing view of woods, mountains, rivers and small village settlement. Tatopani has natural hot spring where you can relax.

Day 12Drive to the scenic city, Pokhara We return to Pokhara from Tatopani. We leave the village life, rural areas as we move to Pokhara city. Pokhara city welcomes you with himalayas view , cool breeze from lake and friendly locals.

Day 13Ride back to Kathmandu and farewell dinner We drive through Prithvi Highway to reach Kathmandu. After successful and worthy journey , Nepal Adventure Team organizes farewell dinner to cherish the accomplishment of journey.

Day 14International departure The incredible Upper Mustang Motorbike Ride ends here on 14th day. You will be dropped to airport by our staff as per your flight schedule. Nepal Adventure Team appreciates you for completing the thrilling ride and bid you warm see off with the hope to serve you further in following days.

Be attentive to the guides

Nepal’s road rules are different than to any in the world so always follow the directions of your guide. In the city, the road is very hectic and you have to be conscious of the foot passengers on the road while in the rural areas, the bumps, rocks, muds and rough structures are always to be looked for. What to do and what not, are all briefed to you in the time to time meeting by the guide.

Cancellation Policy

20% booking amount is needed as usual which is non-refundable if the booking is cancelled and the rest of the payment to be done after arrival.

  • Appropriate travel insurance document which must include emergency evacuation in case of altitude sickness or other problems (photocopy of the insurance policy has to be handed during or after the booking time)
  • Valid driving license
  • Passport and photos

You are strongly advised to bring the followings for the successful venture to this mission since some of them may not be available in Nepal.

  • Bike gears like helmet, gloves, dust mask, kidney belt, water resistant backpack and bungie net

  • Optional extras like goggles, wrist watch, money belt, sunscreen, insect repellent, earplugs,etc

 

Trip Note

The groups safety is very important for us. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Even though every effort is made to go as planned, a little change might occur in the itinerary because of weather conditions, health condition of a person, unexpected natural disasters, etc when you have to be flexible.
