Nagarkot & Changu Narayan a classic cultural tour around rural hill villages with amphitheater of farm terraces around Kathmandu valley rim with cultural village tour of Changu Narayan with Nagarkot a scenic spot famous for stunning sunrise / sunset views over chain of Himalayan peaks.

Nagarkot a hill town, at 2,100 meters high, offers panorama of mountains that extends all the way from Dhaulagiri in the west, Ganesh, Langtang and Jugal Himal in the center and extending towards East Mt. Everest range with marvelous sunset and sunrise.

Next morning breakfast with panorama of mountains and sunrise, and then walk to Changu Narayan on the downhill drive to Telkot village and then hike for few hours to ancient Changu Narayan temple and its quaint traditional village, from Nagarkot after catching the sunrise with panorama of Himalayan peaks a short drive downhill to Telkot village.

From Telkot hike on a gradual nice path through pines and rhododendron woodlands all the way reaching at medieval town of Changu Narayan, visit the magnificent temple of Changu Narayan dedicated to lord Vishnu.

This temple listed in the World Heritage Site, a fifth century old located over a hillock 15 km. east of Bhaktapur the temple adorned with full of artistic works on metal and wood. Inscription dating back to 464 AD found here are the first epigraphic evidences of Nepalese history.

After an interesting visit of Changu Narayan, heading back to Kathmandu visiting Bhaktapur on route the city of Durbar Square and full of arts and culture.

There are many monuments of historical significant places to see over here are five stories Temple Nytapola, 55 Windows Palace, Golden Gate, Lion Gate and many more.
After a wonderful interesting time drive back to Kathmandu with rest of the afternoon free at leisure.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01Drive to Nagarkot 2,100 m and hike to Changu Narayan Temple area. Early morning drive to Nagarkot from the hotel where our guide will meet for the tour and hike drive is interesting on leaving Kathmandu outskirt on the Arniko Highway (Nepal / Tibet highway) near Bhaktapur drive climbs on the winding road passing several farm villages and towns on reaching Nagarkot view point catch the stunning sunrise over the Himalayan chain of peaks, with refreshing tea / coffee or breakfast. Drive leads downhill to Telkot after 20 minutes ride and then start the walk heading west through beautiful pine and rhododendron forested area with full of birds life as the walk progress reaching at famous and ancient Changu Narayan temple area with quaint medieval looking village. Walk up on stone steps to the entrance of the temple our guide will inform you with the ancient history and story of this fascinating place. After an enjoyable time a short drive downhill to Bhaktapur city and few hours tour around Bhaktapur an impressive place with huge old king palace courtyard with interesting temples and observing the locals with their daily simple living. From Bhaktapur after a superb and wonderful tour and hike return back to Kathmandu with rest of the afternoon free for individual activities.
