Among the most popular trekking trails in the eastern part of Nepal, Exciting Kanchenjunga trekking is one of the less crowded trekking in Nepal. Even though the trail was open to trekkers in 1988, the trail remains unexplored to date as only a few trekkers have stepped on this trail. The name Kanchenjunga means “the five treasures of high snow” in the Tibetan language which refers to the five peaks; Kanchenjunga main (8,586 m), Kanchenjunga west“ Yalung Kang” (8,505 m), Kanchenjunga central (8,482 m), Kanchenjunga South (8,494 m) and Kangbachen (7,903 m). Trekking in Kanchenjunga offers you a tremendous view of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Lhotse(8,516 m), Mt.Makalu(8,201 m), and Mt. Kanchenjunga itself. Standing at an elevation of 8586 m Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world, was first climbed in 1995 by Joe Brown and George Band, who were part of a British expedition. Highly pleasing Kanchenjunga trekking provides you immense pleasure through magnificent scenarios decorated with terrace landscapes, remote mountain ranges, and pristine Rhododendron forests.

The transboundary landscape of Kanchenjunga is shared by Bhutan, China, India, and Nepal. One of the main highlights of the adventurous and thrilling Kanchenjunga trek is walking through the beautiful villages of the Kanchenjunga conservation area (KCA, 1997). Covering an area of 2035 square kilometers is home to many globally significant flora and fauna and endangered species such as the red panda, the Himalayan black bear, musk deer, the elusive snow leopard, and many more. Due to its remoteness, some trekkers and locals believed that the abdominal snowman or “Yeti” is found in the Kanchenjunga region, but the existence of the Yeti remains a mystery unsolved story that will surely excite many travelers and passersby. Besides, you will explore the beautiful vibrant village of the Kanchenjunga region, inhabited by different communities of Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, and Gurung. Discovering their richly diverse culture, traditions, and customs, the trail lets you interact with local people and gives you a chance to observe the lifestyle of rural Nepalese people.

26 Days Kanchenjunga trekking starts with your flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur then travel by road to Taplejung, it is roughly 9-10 hours of drive. As you trek above, you slowly gain altitude which might make you feel vomiting, nausea, pressure low, etc which is normal at high altitudes but proper acclimatization helps you to reduce Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Along with the stunning views of Mt. Jannu, Jongsong, Kabru, Tent Peak, and the twins, Kanchenjunga trekking leads you to the highest point of your trek, Pang Pema (5,140 m) from Northern Kanchenjunga Valley. Before reaching Pang Pema, you can see Yalung Base camp (4,850 m) from southern Kanchenjunga Valley. Sele Le (4,290 m) connects both Kanchenjunga North Base Camp and South Base Camp. There are other remarkable places such as Lalikharka (2,220 m), Keswa (2,100 m), Mamanke (2,000 m), and many more in the Kanchenjunga region. You require a Special Restricted Area Entry Permit along with a Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Permit to explore the Kanchenjunga region. You will have limited options or choices regarding food or accommodation, although there are few tea houses available with basic facilities. Thus, Kanchenjunga trekking might be challenging but a good level of fitness, a few precautions, and a heart full of confidence will help you to complete this trek.

You are invited to join this exotic area trek with one of the friendliest and most trusted travel companies in Nepal. There is no doubt that the Nepal Adventure Team provides you with a great opportunity to discover the eastern valleys of remote Nepal with an early booking for 2024 and 2025.

                                          Solo Travellers

We have arranged for a single traveler to pay for a single trip only. He has to share the accommodation with other people of the same sex though while he can also join the other groups.

                                          Foods and Accommodations

On Kanchenjunga Trekking, all meals are provided during the trek while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. Generally, traditional Nepalese (daal, Bhat, curry, and pickle), Tibetan, Continental, Indian, and other cuisines are available in the local lodges/teahouses. There will also be a welcome and farewell dinner for guests in Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, you'll be staying in the best quality standard hotel, on a twin-sharing basis. On trekking, accommodation is simple yet comfortable on-mountain lodges. Toilets and bathrooms need to be shared in some teahouses.
Note: A single room is always available but only on special requests and spending extra bucks.

                                          Health and Fitness Required

No previous experience is required since it's a moderate trek. But being a healthy person physically and mentally is very important. It is better if we prepare ourselves a few days/weeks before the start of the trek by jogging and running regularly since will be walking a lot of ups and downs in the hills, ridges, villages, and mountains. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions should inform us beforehand.

                                          First Aid Kit/High Altitude Sickness

Nepal Adventure Team strongly suggests that you have your first aid or medical kit. This trip takes you to some high altitudes though not much but the slow walks and regular stops between the walks will help you acclimatize to high altitude saving you from the high altitude sickness called AMS(acute mountain sickness). Gaining altitude without proper consideration of AMS is fatal.

                                          Your Guide and Porter

Since mountain trekking takes you to remote places over high altitudes, the leader should have a piece of significant knowledge in the field so that he can wonderfully and safely lead you there clearing any obstacles on the way. Our Nepal Adventure Team can proudly say that our guides are highly qualified for the role. They are fully trained, experienced, and licensed. They have undergone a whole lot of training to make themselves useful in various situations and to make your journey a smooth and pleasant one.
Our porters are always fully equipped with the gear they need and as per the company policy, they are always insured and completely looked after. They are our backbone. We allow a maximum weight of 25 kg to be carried by one porter. We make sure that they are well-paid and well-treated.

                                          Best Time to Travel

The best time for trekking to the Kanchenjunga Trekking is Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) because the weather is warm and moderate while the view and visibility are the best. The winter is also somehow fine but the monsoon is the least frequented time because of the occasional heavy rain and when the roads might be troublesome.

Trekking has been long established in Nepal, so the itineraries are modified and moderated in such a way that you can take it easy and slow. DO NOT RUSH AND ENJOY. There is plenty of time and the guide will keep track of you all the time. It might be a bit harder or a bit colder but you will get used to it.

                                          Additional Money

Every traveler is different and they spend their way. Some spend on food and drinks while others on souvenirs. Either way, consider your spending habits and also tipping, emergency fund ($200), etc before you pack up and leave.

Carry some sort of wallet or belt for your important documents and money. The hotels have a safety deposit box where a lock is recommended before passing the luggage.

                                            A Trek into the Wild!

The 26 Days Kanchenjunga Trekking was a trek into the wild, offering a glimpse into one of the most remote corners of the Himalayas. The trek was challenging both physically and mentally, but the rewards were incredible. The scenery was stunning, with towering peaks, deep valleys, and dense forests teeming with wildlife. The highlight was the Pangpema viewpoint, where we had an up-close view of the third highest peak in the world. This is a must-do trek for anyone seeking a true wilderness experience in Nepal.
