Just as the name suggests, this trail mainly focuses on Tamang Heritage and culture accompanied by the natural beauty from flora, and fauna to panoramic mountain views.

What does Tamang stand for?

Tamang is one of the 59 indigenous people recognized by the Nepal Government. The term Tamang is derived from two words: Ta which means horse and Mang which means rider or trader. It is assumed that they were connected with the business of horse trading or riding. Tamang has its own distant language, culture, customs, rituals, and lifestyle. Tamang have their own language, culture, dress, and social structure, they also have over 100 sub-clans. Tamang mostly follows Buddhism as their religion and their language comes from the Tibeto-Burman Language family. Following the Tibetan calendar of the 12-year cycle, their typical song dance including humor, wit, satire, joy, and sorrow is famously known as Tamang-Selo. Their major musical instrument is Damphu, a small round drum covered with goatskin. Sonam Loshar is their main festival celebrated in February – March and Buddha Jayanti. Tamang community is mostly found in the middle hilly region of the Himalayan range of Nepal.

History of Tamang Heritage Trail

Tamang Heritage Trail covers the ancient settlements of the Tamang community. Tamang Heritage trail used to be the main route for traders in the past. The traders of Nepal and Tibet used the trail to barter the necessary goods. Tibetan traders used to provide the meat of Mountain goats whereas traders of the south supplied salt and other foodstuffs to them.

The cooperation and activities between the villages of Tamang Heritage Trail and Tibet can still be seen among the settlements and locals of the village. The cultural artifacts of Tamang highly reflect the influence of Tibetan culture, styles, and architecture.

Thanks Nepal Adventure Team, The best Trek Forever

When I came to Nepal in April, I had no idea that I would round up in the Tamang Heritage trail trek with my colleagues. We came for a business purpose here in Nepal and we had a week or so left before we went back so we decided to contact a travel agency. We just so happened to meet Mr. Jeevan through our contacts here in Nepal. Mr. Jeevan and his team did an exceptional job in planning our entire trip to the Langtang region. He said that we would love to experience the unique cultures, rituals, and lifestyles of the Tamang and Hyolmo indigenous people of Helambu valley. And yes indeed all of us found this trek amazing. We got to witness the Buddhist monasteries as well as Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and Annapurna range through the trek. I’m very thankful to Nepal Adventure Team for drafting this trek for us. It was an anal-round colorful experience. I hope that when we come to Nepal next year, we can organize a similar trek with the team.

I want to thank all the members of the Nepal Adventure Team who made our Tamang Heritage trail trekking a one-of-a-kind experience in Nepal. From the guides to the manager, porters, and the warm people of Helambu, everyone contributed to giving us a good time and experience in Nepal. I highly recommend everyone to go on the Tamang Heritage trail trek and definitely to go with Nepal Adventure Team.
