Upper Mustang Tiji Festival Trek is a trekking package to attend a fascinating annual three-day festival consisting of Tibetan rituals that celebrate the myth of a son who had to save the Mustang kingdom from destruction. The Tiji festival date is not fixed for 2025

The Tiji festival, which locals call Tenchi Festival is a monk dance festival celebrated every year in Upper Mustang, Lo Manthang. According to Tempa Chhirim, Tenji: commonly pronounced Teeji or Tiji means “ Prayer for World Peace”. Upper Mustang, is a place highly influenced by Tibetan- Buddhism and the only untouched preserved safe zone for Tibetan Buddhism. According to His Highness Dalai Lama “Authentic Tibetan culture survives only in exile in a few places like Mustang, which has had long historical and cultural ties with Tibet.” The main priest of the Tiji Festival is one of the Top 10 Buddhist priests of the World.

The festival is only celebrated in indigenous Lo-Manthang, Upper Mustang. Over the Mustang during the Tiji festival time, monks dressed in elaborate costumes and masks perform dances and rituals that are supposed to drive away evil spirits. The Tiji festival dances are all organized by the Choedhe Monastery and led by the monks, which belong to the Sakya sect of Buddhism. The monastery is headed by a Rimpoche, the Top 10 Buddhist priests in the World. About 65 monks from Lo Manthang, Nhenyul, and Chhosyer reside in this monastery. They practice religious and traditional dances for months just to perform at the Tiji Festival.

The Tiji Festival begins with the opening of the 400-year-old banner of the respective Lord who conquered the demons and brought peace. The Tiji Festival is held in the town’s main square. On the first day, monks integrate the dances and complex ceremonies to lead the world towards peace, evoke God, and purify ground for further days of the Tiji Festival. The second day is lit as different dances are performed with drums, masks, attitude, swords, and the ragging of demons. The king of Lo comes to the town’s main square and settles on the throne for the ongoing Tiji Festival. The third day is all about winning over demons and destruction and welcoming peace.

Tiji Festival Date on 2025 in Upper Mustang

Since 2019 Tiji festival has not been celebrated for 3 years because of COVID-19. The local people of Lo-Manthang decided to celebrate the Tiji festival in 2025 is still not fixed. The Tiji festival date had been fixed according to the Tibetan Lunar calendar, and it goes on for days and praying for world peace Puja.

Nepal Adventure Team arranges the fixed departure for the Upper Mustang Tiji Festival Trek 2025 as per the customized requirements for the attainment of the Tiji festival. The highest altitude you face is 4353 meters with windy and chilly weather. You may have a chance to grab an easy way to travel on the Upper Mustang Tiji Festival Jeep Ride Tour option.

We find no settlements at all in this way which makes it a more peaceful, entirely unspoiled nature, with zero human settlements, and just the moments of nature and you. Since there are no settlements on the trail, Nepal Adventure Team arranges packed lunches for you to keep you healthy and energetic. You just have to gradually walk enjoying nature and its tranquility to reach Chuksang for the night stay.

You see a few settlements and tea house lodges on your way. However, Nepal Adventure Team prefers to use quality packed lunches for this day as well. You do not have to hike long hours as you did on the previous day from Tengbe to Chuksang. Today, we head to one of the most famous places named Muktinath which has Muktinath Temple at an altitude of 3700m. Muktinath Temple holds high religious value for all Hindus and Buddhists. People from different parts of the world visit Muktinath Temple and receive blessings. Additionally, Muktinath Temple is situated at the lap of the Himalayas offering a heart-pleasing view of mountains, hills, and settlements. First Aid Kit/High Altitude Sickness

Nepal Adventure Team strongly suggests that you have your first aid or medical kit. This trip takes you to some high altitudes though not much but the slow walks and regular stops between the walks will help you acclimatize to high altitude saving you from the high altitude sickness called AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). A Trek to Remember

Participating in the Tiji Festival was a highlight, with its fascinating rituals and vibrant performances that brought the history and traditions of Mustang to life. The trek offered stunning views of the Himalayan peaks and a glimpse into the daily lives of the local people. Upper Mustang Tiji Festival Trek was a magical journey through one of Nepal's most remote and culturally rich regions.

my great experience with my guide KISIM and JEEBAN of agency NEPAL ADVENTURE TEAM in Upper Mustang and Annapurna Circuit

Go to Nepal, go as soon as possible to Nepal!
Times are changing, not forever you'll be able to find so much authenticity, so warm and naturally friendly people, such unspoiled nature...
Go there and find JEEBAN Thapa Magar and his agency NEPAL ADVENTURE TEAM!!
And ask for KISIM!! Perhaps he'll also help you and carry your sleeping bag. And he will go with you, step after step, mostly quiet, sometimes even singing; and he'll care for everything and he will be so very sensitive to feel who you are, what you want, how you want, what and how to eat, where to stay overnight..and he'll find a way even in nowhere, and he'll be with you on your way to the heart of this landscape, to the heart of these people...
And he and Jeevan were so flexible to change the route as I wanted it and Kissim walked with me even longer up and down and again up and down in hot sun, by strong dusty wind, in morning coolness.. and in Kathmandu he took me on his scooter and had a good plan to show me all the attractions... and he took me to his so dear family..
And Jeevan let me stay and eat and sleep in his home with his family and he didn't take money for it and he even wanted to give me money back as my flight didn't work and he waited for hours at the airport as my flight had a delay..and I felt like a member of these two families - wow, I'll never, never forget You and Your hospitality!!
Yes, go to NEPAL, to JEEBAN and his NEPAL ADVENTURE TEAM and go with KISIM - you'll find friends!!
And go the way of ANNAPURNA CIRCUIT, you'll be every day surrounded by ever higher mountains, by kind people living in their ancient houses.. having so little, too less!
Go to MUSTANG!! Go to Ghiling and Tsarang, to Lo Manthang, to Yara and Tangge, to Muktinath. It is really very unique experience of nature, shining in all colors and formations, deep canyons, the infinite distances, with scattered white stupas, red golden monasteries... it's a great experience with all these kind people in their way of living, of their traditions, of their religions- and again and again their singing..!!
The road through Mustang is in working progress, Jeep-driving tourists will come soon and more and more and it will change a lot!! Go now!!
And say hello to Kisim, to Jeeban, to their families, to all these people, to this amazing country Nepal!!
